| | Peterson 18-41 Light-Duty Back-Up Mechanical SwitchThe Peterson 18-41 is a mechanical switch for use with back-up alarms on vehicles not originally equipped with back-up lights. It includes a plated, corrosion-resistant switch and has an 8-amp rating. The Peterson 18-41 mechanical switch moves only in one direction. And is designed for installation adjacent to gear shift lever or linkage for actuation. See the "INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS" below for more information. A. Select a convenient location for mounting the switch, either at the reverse gear linkage or shift lever, so the outer end of the switch actuating arm will be moved a minimum of one inch when the vehicle is put into reverse gear. Contact with the actuating arm should be made approximately 1 1/2" from the end. B. Thread two 14 or 16 gage wires to this switch location. One from the positive terminal of the back-up alarm (red wire or front terminal) and the other from a good source of electricity. C. Remove the lower switch housing. Install the wire clamp and insert wires through clamp. Connect one of the wires to the terminal marked "COMMON". NOTE: To improve moisture resistance apply a sealing compound around wires at clamp after reassembly. D. Unscrew hex nuts from switch mounting bolts and attach mounting bracket. Be sure that sealing washers are in place between the bracket and the switch. Bolt bracket in position on vehicle. E. Check the back-up alarm system for proper operation before using the vehicle. If the alarm does not function, reverse power leads to alarm. If alarm still does not function, check to make sure actuating arm is moving one inch. CAUTION: This switch is designed to handle the current draw of back-up alarms. No other circuit can be added to the system without endangering the life of the switch. For higher current requirements this switch can actuate the V520-40 30-Amp Relay feeding circuits requiring higher current draw than back-up alarms. IMPORTANT: This unit is a safety device, and must be connected to it's own separate, fused power point to assure it's continued operation should any other electrical accessory fail.
