| | Peterson 5406P Round 6-Pole PlugThis is a very common 6-way round Trailer plug used widely on many utility and car trailers large enough to utilize trailer brakes as well as livestock trailers and horse trailers. The two extra pins are commonly used to provide the trailer brake power source from the brake controller located in the tow vehicle(Blue Wire). And the other pin is a power source that commonly provides a constant voltage to power in-cabin lighting or to charge a breakaway battery (For trailers with breakaway switches). Installation can be done with a couple of screwdrivers and a pair of wire cutters/strippers. A test light may also be helpful to verify pin location on the tow vehicle. It is recommended to use waterproof connectors for all external butt connections and dielectric grease on all screw set connections to help prevent the damaging effects of corrosion. Wiring Color Codes
These wire color codes are common connection recommendations designed as a Guide to help take the headache out of wiring your trailer. This allows for a more universal connection for the most vehicle/trailer combinations. Please remember that if your vehicle is wired differently, then the provided circuits may not be correct or the wire color may be different. Please test for proper function of each circuit before using. YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN: | |
