| | Peterson V5425Y aka B5425Y Split Trailer Harness KitThe Peterson V5425Y aka B5425Y split trailer harness kit is split at the trailer tongue and designed to run down each side of the frame. It includes a 25 foot split four conductor harness, flat four-way plug, and a trunk connector. The V5425Y color coded wire meets SAE J1128 specifications and the plug meets SAE J1239 specifications. The B5425Y is the same wire harness kit as the V5425Y, other than packaging. VEHICLE CONNECTION Connect the wires of the 3-wire trunk connector to the vehicle wiring. Connect BROWN wire to vehicle TAIL LIGHT wire, YELLOW wire to vehicle LEFT STOP and TURN wire and GREEN wire to vehicle right STOP and TURN. Attach WHITE ground wire to vehicle frame. NOTE: Many cars have rear turn signals separated from the stop lights. These cars may need an electronic turn signal converter (Peterson 5410) in order to connect them to standard trailer lights. LIGHT INSTALLATION Mount stop-tail lights with side marker lights toward outside of trailer. NOTE: Light with license window (and license bracket) is mounted on the LEFT side of the trailer. Mount front side marker lights as shown on the diagram. HARNESS INSTALLATION At the front of the trailer, position plug so that the harness has some slack when connected to the trunk connector. Attach WHITE (ground) wire to the trailer frame. Install the YELLOW/BROWN wire along the LEFT side of the frame. Install the GREEN/BROWN wire along the RIGHT side of the frame. Connect BROWN wires to each tail light (brown). Connect YELLOW wire to LEFT STOP (Yellow or Green). Connect GREEN wire to RIGHT STOP (Yellow or Green). Splice the GREEN/BROWN crossover wire to harness GREEN and BROWN wires, and install wire across rear of trailer. Connect BROWN wire to RIGHT TAIL LIGHT (Brown). Connect GREEN wire to RIGHT STOP (Yellow or Green). Splice side marker wires to BROWN harness wire. CIRCUIT TEST Connect harness plug to trunk connector plug. Turn on car headlights - both tail lights and all four side markers should come on. The brighter stop lights should come on only when brake pedal is depressed, or when turn signal is activated. (Key must be in "on" position.) If lights do not light, check all ground connections. If turn signals on trailer do not operate properly, check connections between vehicle wiring and trunk connector. On cars with small batteries, you may need to run the engine at fast idle when checking turn signals. Do not do this in a closed area!
